Jazz Band
Jazz Band try outs for 2026-27 will be April 22nd after school. If you cannot make this date please email Mr. Crookston a [email protected] to make alternative arrangements.
If an in person audition doesn't work a video recording may suffice with approval
Except in very rare cases, students are expected to be in a core band class to participate in the jazz band. Clarinets are accepted in the jazz band and they will double the Tenor Sax parts or sometimes trumpet parts. However, in adjudicated festivals where "doubling" is not allowed they will only play parts if it is written for clarinet.
In addition to the etude song below students may be asked to demonstrate scale proficiency. The most common scales used in jazz band include the major scales, dorian (major but a flatted 3rd and 7th) and mixolydian (major with a 6th) scales and students should be familiar with them.
