Jazz Band
If you are interested in trying out for Jazz Band please email Mr. Crookston at [email protected] to arrange a time for in person auditions. You can find the audition material below and record your audition. Please PLAY ALONG with the audio file provided.
If an in person audition doesn't work a video recording may suffice. You may record yourself playing the audition and send the recording to [email protected]. It is recommended when sharing video files to save your recording someplace "cloud based" such as "OneDrive," "iCloud" or "Google Drive" and then simply email a shareable link. If doing this please check your settings that others have permission to view your link.
Except in very rare cases, students are expected to be in a core band class to participate in the jazz band. We are trying something new this year and will accept Clarinets into the jazz band (just like the swing bands of old). They will double the Tenor Sax parts or sometimes trumpet parts.
In addition to the etude song below students may be asked to demonstrate scale proficiency. The most common scales used in jazz band include the major scales, dorian, and mixolydian scales and students should be familiar with them.
