Michael Crookston
Band Director |
Mr. Crookston is a member of the Utah Music Educators Association as well as the UEA, Utah Bandmasters Association, NBA and has been working in the schools teaching music in various degrees since 2008. He is also a graduate of Davis High in the class of 2004. Mr. Crookston taught 2 years at Rocky Mountain Jr High in Weber School District and then 2 years at West Point Jr High prior to coming to Davis High. Under his direction the Rocky Mountain Jr and West Point Jr Bands received invitations to play at the State Junior High Concert Band Festival at the University of Utah and received superior scores at the district festivals.
Mr. Crookston has also worked as a percussion advisor to the marching band and winter drumlines for Davis High School. Under Mr. Crookston’s instruction, those ensembles received numerous awards and state titles. Mr. Crookston graduated with honors from Weber State University in Music Education with an instrumental emphasis. Mr. Crookston loves the Utah Jazz! He also enjoys snowboarding, wakeboarding, cross country skiing, being in the mountains, motorcycling or four-wheeling, and just generally being with his family. During the summers Mr. Crookston works as a commercial set-netter in Kenai Alaska harvesting sockeye salmon- a family business which has been in operation over 50 years. Mr. Crookston married his high school sweet heart Tarah whom he met in the Davis High Band. They have 4 children, Carter, Makenna, Dawson, and Tessa. |
Alex Groneman

While not originally from Davis County, Alexandria (Alex) Groneman is thrilled to be a part of the Davis Marching Band team! A recent college graduate, Alex received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Business Minor from Utah State University in May, 2019. Alex's experience at Utah State helped her gain insightful knowledge and skills that she is excited to share and build upon in her professional career.
While attending Utah State, Alex served in several leadership positions including: Aggie Pep Band Student Director, Tau Beta Sigma President, and Aggie Marching Band Drum Major. Additionally, Alex has performed in many music ensembles including the USU Symphony Orchestra and USU Wind Orchestra as principal flutist, Caine Woodwind Quintet, USU Flute Choir, and many other community ensembles. Most recently Alex was able to perform at the 2019 National Flute Association Convention in August with the USU Flute Choir. Participating in masterclasses with both local and national flute musicians such as Carol Wincenc, April Clayton, and Denis Bouriakov has helped Alex hone her flute technique and continued musical education experience. By striving for continued musical success and educational knowledge Alex believes that learning is critical to continued success and achievement. Alex has had many opportunities to conduct and lead various musical groups at Utah State as well as throughout the community including private teaching, directing, and instructing. Alex and her husband Spencer, a fellow Aggie, currently reside in Bountiful and are excited for her future as not only a Davis Dart, but as the director of Bands at Fairfield Jr. High School in Kaysville - Go Falcons! |
Clarissa Stahle

Clarissa Stahle comes to the Davis Marching Band program with over 14 years of experience in Color Guard as a performer, technician, and director.
During her time performing Clarissa’s career has included teams such as Urban Expressions Winter Guard in Salt Lake City, Utah (2011-2014), Fusion Winter Guard in Ogden, Utah (2009-2010), and Gold Spike Winter Guard in Ogden, Utah (2018-2020). Clarissa has traveled across the United States competing in various regionals and World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. Clarissa began her teaching career as a technician for Urban Lite West while spinning for Urban Expressions World. This is where she found her passion for teaching the new generation of performers. In 2015 Clarissa became the head director of the Riverton High School Color Guard. Her team's accomplishments include Outstanding Color Guard, a silver medal in SRA 2016 winter guard season, and a gold medal in SRA 2017 winter guard season. Clarissa has also worked with Gold Spike Winter Guard in Ogden, Utah. “As a young performer, I deeply respected and aspired to spin like the performers on the Davis Color Guard. I look forward as the director to continuing to respect the amazing performers who inspired me to continue my passion for the sport and hopefully light that same fire to those I teach. I am honored and proud to work with the Davis Color Guard .” |
Mitchel Barnard

Mitchell Barnard is a musician and educator who currently resides in Ogden, Utah. Mr. Barnard is the Percussion Director at the Davis High School, and Battery Instructor for the Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps. Under his direction since the winter of 2010, Davis’ Indoor Drumline has won seven Intermountain Percussion Association Championships, and several high percussion awards in the UMEA marching band circuit including the state high percussion for 2017.
Over the years, Mr. Barnard has marched for many ensembles including the Utah Jazz Drumline, Junction City Hybrid Indoor Drumline, University of Utah Drumline, where he served as Section Leader, Weber State Indoor Percussion, the Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps. During this time, he had the privilege of studying under such educators as David Reeves, Kevin Welborn, Matt Little, Chris Grant, Nick Molenda, Derek Fields, Danny Soulier, Ryan Sinner, Dr. Mike Sammons, Sam Bryson and many others. Over the years, Mitch has instructed numerous ensembles around northern Utah and was a Battery Instructor for the Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps. He has also served as guest clinician for several area percussion ensembles and was the Battery Percussion Clinician for the 2012 Utah Music Educator’s Association Summer Marching Band Clinic. Mr. Barnard is also an active arranger and composer. He has written percussion for groups all over Utah including the University of Utah, Weber State University, Weber State Indoor Percussion, Gold Spike Percussion, Utah Valley University and many others. Mr. Barnard is a professional arranger/composer and sound designer of indoor percussion, marching band, additionally Mr. Barnard composes contemporary percussion literature. Mitchell is the Percussion Designer for the Davis High School Marching Band and Indoor Percussion Ensemble. Walter Rosio

Walter has been involved with the marching arts since 2005 performing on trumpet and holding multiple leadership positions with community parade bands, the Davis High School Marching Band (2007-2009), and the Weber State University Wildcat Band (2010-2015). Walter has two seasons experience marching Drum Corps International’s Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps, Casper Wyoming, in 2012, and aging out in 2014. He has also performed three seasons with Weber State Indoor Percussion as a member of the cymbal line (2013-2015). Walter’s teaching experience includes serving as visual caption head for Weber State Indoor Percussion, as well as visual technician for the Davis High School Indoor Drumline (2013-present), and the Davis High School Marching Band (2015-present).
Walter is a graduate of Weber State University receiving his Dual Major in Political Science and Sociology, Fall 2015. He is currently working on attaining a Music Minor, pursing his long held passion for music performance. "As an alumnus of the storied and accomplished Davis High School music program, I feel truly honored to have the opportunity to share my accumulated knowledge and experience of visual marching technique with these students, giving back to the program which first inspired my passion for the competitive marching arts." |
Tyler Twogood

Tyler is an alumni of the Davis band program and has stayed active with the marching arts from his high school years to the present. He is currently working in Ogden as the band director at Mount Ogden Middle School.

Robert Twogood
|
Robert Twogood is also an alumni of the Davis band program and has experience marching with the world class DCI Corps the Santa Clara Vanguard. Robert is currently attending Weber State University pursuing a degree in music education.
